DEC Announces Public Meeting to Discuss Skaneateles Lake Fisheries Management, Research, and Highlights

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) Region 7 Bureau of Fisheries is hosting a public meeting on October 8, 2026, to highlight Skaneateles Lake fisheries and discuss management actions and research taking place on the lake and its tributaries. Staff from DEC’s Finger Lakes Watershed Program will also provide an update on ongoing water quality and watershed protection initiatives.  

DEC encourages all anglers and outdoor enthusiasts interested in Skaneateles Lake to attend this meeting: 

  • Thursday, October 8, 2026, from 6:30–8:30 p.m. 
  • Finger Lakes Mall Community Room, 1579 Clark Street Road, Auburn 
  • No registration is required to attend 

Agenda: 

  • Skaneateles water quality and limnology information  
  • Updates and information on the Skaneateles Lake fishery 

Formal presentations are expected to last approximately one hour. An informal question and answer session related to Skaneateles Lake’s fisheries and water quality will follow DEC’s presentations.  

DEC annually stocks Skaneateles Lake with trout. The ongoing Angler Diary Cooperator Program for gamefish provides DEC fisheries staff with useful data on population trends. Information on the Angler Diary Cooperator Program and recent reports can be viewed on DEC’s website. DEC is continually seeking new cooperators and invites interested volunteers to contact Region 7 Fisheries staff at (607) 218-3767 or [email protected].  

Skaneateles Lake anglers and all fishing enthusiasts are also encouraged to visit DEC's “Tackle Box” feature in the HuntFishNY App which provides anglers one-stop shopping for waterbody-specific information on fishing regulations, stocking, and fishing/boating access sites.
